Project: Apollo Mobile VR Camera
Brand: ION360
Objective: Develop a pioneering mobile VR camera system, featuring a unique universal camera module designed for cross-compatibility with multiple smartphone models via the Apollo case.
Role and Responsibilities: As Head of Design, led the project from initial concept through to the creation of working prototypes, establishing a design framework that would later evolve into the ION360U product.
Strategy: Envisioned a mobile VR solution that transcends the limitations of single-device compatibility, focusing on a modular design to enhance consumer longevity and flexibility.
Design Process: Personally handled the design process from the initial concept sketches to the final design of the user-friendly Apollo case and the innovative, detachable universal camera module, ensuring functionality and broad smartphone compatibility while focusing on user engagement and the practicality of the VR experience.
Execution: Directed the prototyping process, successfully translating innovative ideas into tangible prototypes, demonstrating the product's viability and user-centric design.
Outcome: Although initially conceptualized as Apollo, the project's foundational designs and principles contributed significantly to the development of the final ION360U product, setting a new standard in mobile VR technology.
Tools and Technologies: Utilized cutting-edge design software(C4D, Fusion, Adobe Suite, etc) and rapid prototyping tools to model Apollo's modular features and cross-platform functionality.
Challenges and Solutions: Addressed the technical challenge of creating a universally compatible camera module that maintains high-quality VR capture across different smartphone models, achieving this through meticulous design and iterative testing.
Personal Reflection and Learning: The Apollo project significantly impacted my design philosophy, emphasizing the importance of modularity and consumer adaptability in product design, shaping my approach to future technology innovations.
As the Head of Design for the Advanced Apollo Mobile VR project at ION360, I directly crafted the next iteration with a focus on aesthetic refinement and functionality, introducing a sleek, quiver-shaped design and innovative rail-type connectors for enhanced device compatibility. This hands-on approach resulted in a working prototype that not only elevated the user experience but also initiated transformative discussions leading to the development of the ION360U product.
